Here are some tips to help your struggling reader at home:

1. Pick a quiet time to read

Creating a relaxed environment can ease the pressure some children face when asked to read.

2. Make time share books together

These can be books that you enjoy and want to share or ones that they enjoy.

3. Identify tricky words first before you start reading

Sound them out, blend them together. Reading the trickier words before you start reading will give your child confidence when they see that word.

4. Ask them simple questions about the pictures

Before reading the text use simple questions to encourage your child to want read to find out what happens.

5. Give them time to decipher the words

Giving your child time to decipher the words and not rushing them will increase their confidence.
